New Novel About A Suicide Bomber, God, And The Devil - Set For Controversy Or Just A Hilarious Take On Modern Life?
Online, February 22, 2011 (Newswire.com) - When the main characters of a novel are a suicide bomber, God, the Devil, with a cameo appearance by Jerry Springer, some people are bound to get upset.
'I certainly never set out to offend to anyone with Karl & the Prankster God,' explains British author, Alex Ford, 'However, I can see why some people might not be comfortable with God and the Devil having an amicable relationship, with God actually feeling sorry for the Devil. I came up with the idea for the story while thinking about disappointment, the feeling that something really hasn't lived up to your expectations. I wanted to follow that through to its natural conclusion and decided the ultimate disappointment would be arriving in Heaven and being disillusioned. The next step was to imagine a scenario where that might happen, that's how I came up with a suicide bomber being accidently delivered to a waiting room in Heaven. And heaven is not what the suicide bomber expects; not least of all because there are no virgins....'
In his first novel The Friend Request, Alex ford was compared favourably with Ben Elton, however in Karl & the Prankster God a different style is evident, tighter, more caustic; Irvine Welsh meets Douglas Adams.
Karl & the Prankster God is published by The Beehive Press.
