New Site Educates Homeowners About The Need For Garage Door Locks
Online, November 8, 2010 (Newswire.com) - With more than 65% of Americans being homeowners, Pat Donohue is educating them about a growing problem many of them are unaware of.
"While our nation is experiencing less violent crime every year, petty burglaries are on the rise. What many homeowners do not even consider is that their garage door is often left unlocked," says Donohue.
Citing Department of Justice crime statistics, Donohue believes this puts many people's belongings and safety at risk.
"Studies have shown that by making your house a less attractive target for would-be thieves, your risk of burglary decreases. So many people use their garage as not just the main entry way into their home but also as a spare storage area. Leaving this part of your house unlocked is an unnecessary risk," adds Donohue.
Donohue plans to get homeowners educated and involved in doing as much as possible to to protect their homes.
"When it comes to protecting the security of your house and belongings, the old saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure is appropriate. There are garage door locks that can prevent dangerous break-ins and home invasions. You can go to a big box store and find some models for less than what many people spend on dinner," says Donohue.
The website is currently being developed. Plans call for a downloadable consumer action plan, as well as reccomendations on garage safety equipment.
