New York Florist Arranges Flowers for Japanese Relief
Online, April 4, 2011 (Newswire.com) - A Midtown Manhattan-based florist that specializes in weddings and modern floral design is stepping up to help Japan. When the Japanese earthquake and tsunamis hit, Alaric Flower Design's Lena Yelagina decided it was necessary to help out. Being from Russia and knowing the damage done by Chernobyl, she felt that it was her duty to help out in time of such disaster. For the next few months, all proceeds collected from the purchase of two specific arrangements will go straight to help relief efforts in Japan.
"I don't have any extra money to donate myself," she said, "but I do have flowers, and hopefully really generous patrons." The money collected from these arrangements is all going to the Red Cross of Japan. "The prices are a little high, but people want to help. This way, they get something back and it is tax-deductable."
Alaric Flower Design isn't a stranger to charity. Currently, Lena has a handful of nursing homes in Manhattan that are the happy recipients of flowers after large corporate events. "It was a shame that thousands of fresh flowers were being thrown in the dumpster after dinners or meetings." The delivery and flowers are 100% pro-bono and Alaric is happy to do it.
