Odyssey Behavioral Healthcare Announces Partnership With Dr. David Greenfield

Plan to Open Treatment Center for Technology and Gaming Addiction in New England

Odyssey Behavioral Healthcare announced today a new partnership with Dr. David Greenfield of The Center for Internet and Technology Addiction.

Odyssey, headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee, has a diverse network of intensive residential behavioral health facilities across the treatment spectrum. Operating seven behavioral health locations with 245 beds and affiliated outpatient services within five states, Odyssey provides a continuum of care treating eating disorders, psychiatric and dual diagnosis disorders.

I have been treating Internet addiction for over 20 years, and during that time, we have seen a significant increase in the number of inquiries and clients we have treated. We are very excited to partner with Odyssey Behavioral Healthcare to offer an expanded and comprehensive residential treatment program for technology addictions. The capacity to offer residentially-based services will enhance our ability to help those clients in need of extended treatment that would otherwise not have been met by traditional outpatient care.

Recently, the World Health Organization announced the recognition of “Video Gaming Disorder” as a new mental health condition for inclusion in the 11th edition of its International Classification of Diseases. With this announcement and the growing dependency on technology in the United States, Odyssey has partnered with Dr. Greenfield to open a facility in the North Eastern US that effectively intervenes in treating gaming and technology addictions. The facility will offer residential behavioral health treatment to young adults who are compulsively using the Internet, social media, smartphones, video games, and pornography. The program will include psychoeducation, counseling and psychotherapy, interpersonal and social skills training, and leisure and activity therapies to reduce compulsive technology use and facilitate healthy real-time living.

Odyssey CEO Scott Kardenetz said, “Our partnership with Dr. Greenfield, an internationally recognized expert in technology and gaming dependency, gives us the opportunity to build an evidence-based, comprehensive residential treatment model and program to address this growing problem. Our goal is to offer a more mindful and sustainable approach to digital technology use by providing clients with the tools and coping behaviors needed to interact with technology in a healthier and more balanced manner.”

Dr. Greenfield’s recent research, writing, and clinical work are focused on the neurobiology, pharmacology, and treatment of compulsive Internet and technology, social media, pornography, and smartphone use. His extensive experience will broaden Odyssey’s existing clinical services and help shape future programs to serve existing clients, families, and communities battling Internet, technology, and video game addictions.

“I have been treating Internet addiction for over 20 years, and during that time, we have seen a significant increase in the number of inquiries and clients we have treated. We are very excited to partner with Odyssey Behavioral Healthcare to offer an expanded and comprehensive residential treatment program for technology addictions.
