Parker & Sons Supports Arizona Public Service's Energy Conservation Plan

Parker & Sons, one of Arizona’s most highly esteemed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical service providers, has recently voiced its support for the Arizona Public Service’s (APS) plan for better energy conservation. The plan, coined the 2016 Demand Side Management (DSM) Plan, received its full approval from the Arizona Corporation Commission and should be implemented within the next few months.

The DSM has five major focus points, which include the following: “smart” thermostats, efficient control devices for all HVAC units, behavior demand response systems, HVAC electronically connected (EC) motors, and LED linear lightening.

Smart thermostats should also become more popular as this plan begins to gain momentum. Additionally, smart thermostats and new HVAC technology complement each other. According to APS, the smart thermostats collect data from the HVAC unit in order to send alerts to homeowners regarding energy usage for cooling devices and automatic calibration updates.

In particular, Parker & Sons is most eager about the plan’s push for HVAC EC motors and Smart Thermostats.

“[Parker & Sons is] really excited about this,” said company representative Josh Kelly. “We’ve been wanting people to start upgrading their current thermostats and HVAC systems.” For the vast majority, thermostats and various HVAC units aren’t replaced often, meaning that their technology can become either obsolete or inefficient. In effect; the older the model, the less environmentally friendly.

APS intends to incentivize these new measures for individual consumers and businesses alike, though they have not currently released what these incentives will look like. However, there are practical and beneficial reasons for complying with the DSM.

For instance, installing an HVAC EC motor can reduce energy usage by an estimated 65% or more. Kelly commented on this measure, saying that “… more people should take these kinds of things into consideration. After all, reducing energy use means reducing your monthly energy bill.”

“We’re on board for all of APS’s plans,” said Kelly. “As a service provider, it’s so important for us to stay up-to-date with the latest technology. Not only is it important for our customers to know this information which could save them lots of money, but it has always been a priority for us to support greener living initiatives.”
