PUNAHOU BLUES: "The Fight of the Century" now available on Video

Check out the first round of "The Fight of the Century," from the chapter of the same name in the coming of age book PUNAHOU BLUES by Hawaii writer Kirby Wright.

Have you ever wanted to duke it out with the school bully after school?

This archival footage was shot on an old Bell & Howell in May, 1973:

Here's an excerpt from the book:
Wayne charged a third time. I stood my ground and
threw a left at his face point blank, putting my weight
behind the punch. I connected and the blow sent him
reeling backwards. His arms moved like windmills and he
fell back against the hoses. The guys on my side of the ring
cheered.
"Knock 'im out!" Hugh said.
"Break his face!" said Speedy.
Wayne stared out at the crowd trying to determine
who'd spoken. The guys pressed in close and some rested
their arms over the top hose. Wayne charged a fourth
time and threw a left that narrowly missed my jaw. He
was winding up with his right when I tagged him with
an overhand left to the face. He lurched back into the far
corner and grabbed the trunk of a coconut tree. "Fuck!"
Wayne said. He put a glove to his nose to check for
blood.

Faces in the crowd: Greg Ayau, Sheldon Ching, Brian Cody, Dan Dung, Evarts Fox, Steve Hong, Fred Hu, Roger Iwamura, Dean Jones, Rich Kennedy, Bob Lehr, John Lucy, Meade Wildrick, and Kirby Wright.
