Rohde & Schwarz Supports 3GPP Cellular V2X Device Testing for Vehicle-to-Vehicle Connectivity

The R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester supports cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) signal testing, and was used to successfully test a pre-commercial Qualcomm® 9150 C-V2X chipset…

Rohde & Schwarz, a leading supplier of test & measurement equipment, is enabling vehicles to move to the next level of autonomy by providing initial support for cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) signaling testing. Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm Technologies, a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, have collaborated by using the R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester with a pre-commercial Qualcomm® 9150 C-V2X chipset, which supports 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release 14 specifications for PC5 based direct communications. The 9150 C-V2X chipset is a product of Qualcomm Technologies and operates in bands 46D and 47 for 5.8/5.9GHz ITS spectrum.

Utilizing direct communications, C-V2X allows vehicles to communicate directly with each other (V2V), pedestrians (V2P), and roadway infrastructure (V2I) without the need of cellular subscription or network assistance. C-V2X also encompasses network-based communications utilizing wireless operators’ 4G and emerging 5G wireless networks to support vehicle-to-network (V2N) communications on the Uu interface, enabling vehicles to communicate to the cloud.

“Thanks to our collaborative efforts, we were able to test and verify our C-V2X reference implementation of 3GPP Release 14 PC-5 based vehicle peer-to-peer communications between LTE user equipment,” said Anton Messmer, VP Mobile Radio Testers. “We are delighted to be working together with Qualcomm to accelerate the commercialization of C-V2X and help automotive players to adopt the latest 3GPP technologies for their products.”
