Online, April 4, 2012 (Newswire.com) - San Francisco will be host to yet another forward-thinking event - Transgender & Aging. The half-day event is quite probably the first ever, anywhere event focused solely on issues of import to transgender seniors and transgender people with disabilities. Produced by the LGBT Community Partnership, the educational event will improve and enhance the lives of transgender people - particularly seniors and people with disabilities - by providing specialized training for professionals who serve them.
Consisting of valuable information for experts in the fields of medicine, mental health, social services, and legal assistance, the event's leading sponsors include the office of State Senator Mark Leno and Bay Area healthcare services provider CPMC / Sutter, among other community leaders. It will be held on Wednesday, April 4th from noon to 5:30 PM at the California State Building at 350 McAllister Street in San Francisco - one of the city's premier conference venues.
Transgender & Aging will include a welcome address by transgender Judge Victoria Kolakowski, of the Alameda Superior Court, followed by panel discussions with Jamison Green & Joanne Keatley - both from the Center of Excellence in Transgender Health, Dr. Nick Gorton of Lyon-Martin Health Services, Cecilia Chung of San Francisco's Human Rights Commission, Danny Kirchoff of the Transgender Law Center, community advocates Felecia Elizondo & Jazzie Collins, and other community leaders.
"Transgender seniors & transgender people with disabilities often fall through the cracks of San Francisco's incredibly strong yet fragmented network of support systems," says Rick Appleby of the Institute On Aging and a co-chair of the LGBT Community Partnership - the event's producer. "This year the LGBT Partnership is taking aim at this problem with an event that will help to enhance the lives of seniors and adults with disabilities in the transgender community," says Michelle Alcedo of Openhouse - the other co-chair of the LGBT Community Partnership.
The LGBT Community Partnership is an all-volunteer group of service providers, consumers, and advocates who are dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the lives of LGBT older adults and adults with disabilities by improving access to quality services.
