Shermco's "Ride for Wind 2009" raises money for Women of Wind Energy
Online, September 14, 2009 (Newswire.com) - DALLAS - Shermco Charities, an organization funded by employees of Shermco Industries, recently hosted "Ride for Wind 2009," a motorcycle touring event. The event raised $1,845 for Women of Wind Energy, an organization that supports and encourages the participation and advancement of professional women in the wind energy industry in the U.S. and Canada.
Celebrating Global Wind Day, "Ride for Wind 2009" participants rode approximately 260 miles throughout North Texas, stopping at wind farms along the way to learn about the benefits of wind power. Riders from across the country included individuals from various facets of the energy industry and represented all professional levels from chief executives to men and women working in the field on wind turbines.
"We are really thrilled to be part of a creative project like Ride for Wind and benefit from the goodwill of people who care about wind power," said Michelle Montague, WoWE Steering Committee member. "Shermco Charities's contribution underscores the value people find in mentoring, education and leadership for all women desiring to make a difference in the wind power movement."
Scott Meador, vice president of Shermco's Machine Services Division, said the raised funds will help build new opportunities for women's career growth, leadership and impact in the wind industry.
"The funds we've raised will go to Women of Wind Energy, which provides mentoring, fellowships and leadership activities that encourage more women to get into the industry," said Meador. "It is our intention to continue promoting public support for wind power and supporting the work of WoWE through our annual Ride for Wind event."
