Stockton To Return To The British Touring Car Championship
Online, October 1, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Versatile racer Chris Stockton will return to the British Touring Car Championship for the remaining rounds of the season at the wheel of a Thorney Motorsport Vauxhall Insignia backed by Ningbo and Karcher, as part of a full time comeback in 2013.
The 43 year old raced in Britain's most prestigious saloon car Championship from 2006 through to 2008 in a Lexus and a Seat, but more recently has been contesting GT's in Europe in a factory built BMW M3 GT4, and even the National Hot Rod Series. Following discussions Stockton has decided to return to the BTCC and will line up at Silverstone this weekend.
Stockton explained "I have always loved the British Touring Car Championship and racing the Insignia this weekend represents a chance for me to get a good idea about exactly what the New Generation Touring Cars are all about. It looks like an exciting time to join with the new the regulations proving to be a great success.
I am open minded about which way to go with my plans to race in the category full time next year. I am open to discussion with teams for 2013, or we can run a car under the BTC Racing banner.
The Insignia has shown signs of potential this season, and I want to try and improve on its results by utilising two days testing this week at Pembrey. I will be able to use the last two meetings to introduce the Championship to existing sponsor Ningbo, plus several Ningbo partners who love the idea of being involved with the BTCC"
Stockton has previously raced a TVR at the Le Mans 24 Hours, won the Kent Super FF Final Formula Ford Festival along with several Legends races, TVR Tuscan Challenge races and GT Races.
