Stuart Vener Warns of Real Estate Fraud on Malcolm Out Loud

Vener, a pioneer in the "Second-Chance" property program which assisted thousands of clients in walking away from upside down, negative equity properties, told host Malcolm that today's still unstable market is fraught with predators.

"The industry needs a catharsis," Vener said. "When things go bad it brings the disreputable companies out of the woodwork."

Vener also talked about how people who have fallen behind in their mortgage payments ought to be careful about "debt reduction" scams that promise a lot but deliver very little.

"If you don't pay your mortgage, you're eventually going to lose your home," Vener said. "Some plans can help, but the homeowner needs to make payments, ultimately. Many plans can only delay the inevitable. There are a lot of people who are being lied to."

Vener said that, as with most scams, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Vener also discussed the future of the mortgage market, and what should be done to fix the wrongs.

Vener is a Director of the Community Housing and Development Corporation, a charity that has provided over $100 million in down payment gifts for buyers.
