Texas Minimum Auto Liability Limits To Increase

Texas Required Auto Liability Coverage Increasing For Second Time In Less Than Three Years

The time has come for the scheduled increase in "Auto Liability Minimum Requirements" in the state of Texas. As required by Texas law, all vehicle operators must be able to prove that in the case of an auto accident, he or she can pay for damage that they cause. Majority of drivers prove financial responsibility by purchasing automobile insurance. Texas currently requires that drivers carry at least 25000/50000/25000 coverage. What this means is, in case of an accident, the insurance company representing the driver who caused the accident will pay up to $25,000 for bodily injury for any one person and up to a maximum of $50,000 if more than one person is injured. The other 25000 is to cover what property damage may arise from an accident caused by the insured. Liability coverage does not cover bodily injury or damaged property to the driver who is at fault, his passengers, or his own property.

The minimum will increase to 30000/60000/25000 on January 1. This increase has been planned since the last increase which occurred on April 1, 2008.
