The $10,000 Scholarship Challenge on Fixing America's Road Safety
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., May 7, 2026 (Newswire.com) - Priority Tire has launched a scholarship competition offering $10,000 in prizes for students who can propose a solution to some of the most common road safety problems. The Safe Roads, Strong Futures Scholarship invites students to submit essays addressing one of the five critical road safety topics. The program seeks to fund students who can demonstrate both analytical thinking and creative problem-solving.
"We are looking for essays that combine research with innovative ideas on the provided topics," said Dimitri Chernyak, President of Priority Tire. "The winning submissions need to show both understanding and practicality. We want to see solutions grounded in data but designed for real-world application on American roads."
The competition has three prizes:
First place: $5,000
Second place: $3,000
Third place: $2,000
Essays must be 500-700 words and will be evaluated based on writing quality, information accuracy, and originality. Students can choose from five topics, each designed to address different aspects of road safety. The available topics include:
Distracted Driving: Examine how modern technology affects driver attention and propose practical solutions to reduce distractions. Analyze current trends and share life-saving strategies for young drivers.
Road Infrastructure: Explain how road infrastructure improvements could significantly reduce accidents in high traffic areas. Consider engineering changes that might better protect pedestrians and cyclists.
Driver Education: Evaluate the effectiveness of current driver education programs in preparing teens for real-world driving. Propose specific curriculum changes that could better prevent road accidents.
Blind Spots: Analyze common mistakes new drivers make when checking blind spots and changing lanes. Explain why mirror reliance alone is not enough and how blind spot accidents could be reduced.
Roadside Emergencies: Examine common roadside emergencies that catch new drivers unprepared. Outline essential safety steps when stranded, recommended supplies to keep in vehicles, and explain how basic maintenance can prevent breakdowns.
The competition is open to undergraduate students currently enrolled at accredited U.S. universities and high school seniors who have been accepted into university programs. Students must maintain continuous enrollment throughout the award period.
"We are committed to supporting students who contribute to safer driving through education and innovative thinking," said Dimitri Chernyak. "This scholarship represents our ongoing investment in the next generation."
Applications must be submitted digitally by December 1, 2026. Complete submission guidelines and terms are available on the Priority Tire Scholarship page.
