The 48 Film Project today announces details of the 2012 Austin competition in it's madcap mission impossible for dozens of area filmmaker teams: to write, cast, scout, shoot, edit, and submit a film in two days' time. As part of an international, 120+ city campaign, today's announcements include dates, events, and a new producer for the local installment now in it's 10th year.
The 48 Hour Film Project began in 2001 as a local film challenge in Washington, DC among friends. In 2002, the Project grew to include Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, New York and Philadelphia. Since then, it has evolved into a truly global phenomenon and the world's largest filmmaking competition. 2012 brings a new event producer for Austin, Noelle Schonefeld.
This year, The 48 Hour Film Project will 'tour' nearly 125 cities on five continents, challenging more than 50,000 people to complete an entire film in a mere 48 hours. In all, more than 4,000 films will be created as part of the 2012 competition. Austin's competition is August 24 - 26 with the screenings taking place August 28 - 30.
The challenge will take over the streets, parks, homes, and businesses of Austin, when traditionally dozens of locally based film crews-from amateurs to pros-take to the streets with a provided genre, character, prop, line of dialogue, and 48 hours to write, cast, scout, shoot, edit, and submit their films before the strictly enforced deadline. Films submitted even 1-minute late on August 26 will be disqualified.
Submitted films will be screened for the public and judged by a panel of experts. The Best Film from Austin will be chosen and winners will then be in the running for top honors in Hollywood, CA at Filmapalooza 2013, the 48 Hour Film Project's annual awards-before moving on to Festival de Cannes in May 2013. Best Film in Austin will also take home a Premium mediaArtist package from channelAustin, valued at almost $1,000 with a year of free training, access to channelAustin resources plus the ability to borrow equipment.
