The Consulate General of Ireland in Austin and GlobalAustin Co-Host Peace and Prosperity Through Economic Diplomacy

​​GlobalAustin and the Consulate General of Ireland in Austin, are proud to announce Peace and Prosperity through Economic Diplomacy, an event to celebrate and emphasize the contribution of economic diplomacy in promoting global peace on Sept. 18, 2019, at Chateau Bellevue in Austin. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a networking reception followed by a panel discussion during a seated dinner.

David Firestein, CEO, The George H.W. Bush Foundation for US-China Relations will moderate a panel discussion between Claire McCarthy, Consul General of Ireland in Austin, Pablo Marentes, Consul General of Mexico in Austin, Cai Wei, Consul General of People’s Republic of China in Houston and James Bell, CEO, Alliance Abroad Group. The panel discussion will cover the impact of foreign direct investment and international trade on economies globally. The event will allow the community to converse on how economic diplomacy positively impacts varied global conditions. “Through its role in promoting citizen diplomacy and its efforts to increase awareness of global issues, GlobalAustin has been a great support to the Consulate General of Ireland since our opening in 2015. We look forward to participating in GlobalAustin’s ‘Peace and Prosperity through Economic Diplomacy’ event on 18 September and to discussing Ireland’s new policy for international development ‘A Better World,’” commented Clare McCarthy, incoming Irish Consul General to Austin.

The event is supported by the Alliance Abroad Group, Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce, the Irish Network Austin, Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Italy-American Chamber of Commerce, University Area Rotary Club of Austin and WebTek Interactive.

GlobalAustin was founded in 1960 as a program to welcome international students to the University of Texas. GlobalAustin has since grown to become an organization fully invested in the mission of providing the Central Texas community with multiple opportunities to experience global, cross-cultural exchange.
