The Fred Hollows Foundation South Africa appoints a fundraising strategist
Online, December 14, 2009 (Newswire.com) - The Fred Hollows Foundation, through its South African operation based in East London in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, has appointed Bryce Biggs to assist it in the development of an effective fundraising strategy for the furtherance of its work in South and Southern Africa.
The foundation focuses on comprehensive eyecare programmes and works closely with the healthcare system in the Eastern Cape in terms of a partnership with the Eastern Cape government. This partnership involves supporting and assisting with eyecare programmes at some 6 hospitals and 19 clinics in the province.
The work of the foundation includes advocacy, capacity building, research, as well as the provision of essential equipment and supplies. Emphasis is placed on the application of best practice as identified by the foundation and its Australian parent in countries such as Australasia, India, Nepal, and Vietnam.
With a base in the Eastern Cape of South Africa the foundation is now exploring a planned programme of further outreach into other provinces of South Africa as well as in other countries in Southern Africa. These are generally undertaken in partnership with international and national aid agencies, ngo's and governments.
The Fred Hollows Foundation is inspired by work of the late Professor Fred Hollows, whose vision was for a world where no one was needlessly blind. Their website can be visited at www.hollows.org.
