The Spirit of Texas Juried Art Competition Call for Entries Announced

The Witte Museum, in partnership with the San Antonio Art League, announces The Spirit of Texas juried art competition, accepting entries until May 3, 2019.

The Witte Museum, in partnership with the San Antonio Art League, announces The Spirit of Texas juried art competition, accepting entries from Saturday, Feb. 2, through Friday, May 3, 2019. Images of original two-dimensional artwork, excluding works of photography, will be accepted through CAFÉ: https://artist.callforentry.org/festivals_unique_info.php?ID=6316.

Artists are invited to render their inspirations from the State of Texas. The artist need not be a current resident of Texas, as long as the subject matter is of the Lone Star State.

This competition is held in conjunction with the Witte Museum’s groundbreaking exhibition "The Art of Texas: 250 Years." opening Saturday, May 4, 2019. It is offered in a tradition established by Witte Museum curator Eleanor Onderdonk, Edgar B. Davis and the San Antonio Art League in 1927.
Artists may submit up to two works of art by May 3, 2019, through CAFÉ with a fee of $50 per artist. All work must be made by and submitted by the artist and must not be represented by an agent. Artists must be 18 years of age or older.

Prizes: $5,000 for first place, $2,500 for second place and $1,000 for third place. The winning entry will be displayed at the Witte Museum from June 15 through Sept. 2, 2019.

The first 20 finalists in the competition will be included in a national online gallery through CAFÉ which will run through Sept. 2, 2019.
