The Walking Book Club Kicks Off New Round

This unique, virtual community has never been more relevant

The Walking Book Club with NBC-HWC Coach Julie Kaminski

National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach Julie Kaminski announced today that the next round of the Walking Book Club will kick off on April 8. This unique, free, virtual community — which has been helping make exercise and activity more enjoyable, productive and fun since 2016 — has already seen a spike in sign-ups as COVID-19 forces people to change their lifestyle.

“I designed this club for people who struggle with exercise and physical activity and seek a fun new way to ‘squeeze it in’ and for readers who like fitness and would love a new exercise hack,” Kaminski said. “With many people having more time on their hands right now, the Walking Book Club is a great option to read a great book while walking, running, cycling or even doing chores. The only ‘rule’ is that you have to be moving to listen.”

Club insiders are provided with four audiobook options per five-week round. After they have finished reading, they meet online to discuss the books — what they loved and what they learned — and inspire each other to keep moving. This next round’s selections, which fall under the Book-to-Screen theme, are Firefly Lane and The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn, and Artemis Foul by Eoin Colfer.

“Because the Walking Book Club is virtual, we have no ceiling on the number of people who can be involved and they can live anywhere,” Kaminski said. “This concept provides accountability, mental stimulation, and interaction and support from the community. It’s especially valuable during this time when many people feel isolated and anxious.”

Those who become Walking Book Club insiders receive Activity Guides for each book, access to the private Facebook community, and other extras to help them track their progress and make lasting change. Insiders are thrilled to find the activity helps them manage stress, makes it easier to move for longer periods of time, and even helps them lose weight — and Delia Owens, author of Where the Crawdads Sing, a previous club selection, is also a fan. “What a concept,” she said in thanking Kaminski for choosing her book.
