Throwaway Furniture Bad For The Environment

Online, October 21, 2013 (Newswire.com) - People should buy well-made furniture and hand it down from generation to generation to prevent us from becoming a throwaway society. That's according to TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp.

In a recent interview the Location, Location, Location star said stores such as Ikea resulted in people buying cheap furniture and ultimately throwing them away when fashions change.

At a time when we are being encouraged to recycle the mother-of-two argues that it is having the opposite effect.

Kirstie Allsopp said years ago people getting married or setting up home together would have been given a piece of furniture from a family member. The passed down wingbacked chair or dining chairs would have lasted a lifetime.
