Touchstone Presents:
Gear: An Urban Dance Fundraiser

Toronto, ON - Gear: An Urban Dance Fundraiser will take place on Thursday, December 22nd, 2011 at Birchmount Park CI. This event, set to raise over $5000, will showcase several of Toronto's hottest dance styles Krump, House, Breaking, and Funk. Doors open for Gear at 6:00pm with performances and showcases starting at 6:30pm. Registration and information about the event can be located at http://www.wix.com/tycevents/gear.

Net proceeds from the event will benefit Touchstone Youth Centre, and will be used to assist Touchstone Youth Centre residents in finding permanent, holistic solutions to their homelessness and provide hot meals, access to the clothing bank and respite from outside elements.

In Toronto, there are anywhere from 1,500 to 2,000 different homeless youth on a given night. Gear is the most recent in a series of fundraising events Touchstone Youth Centre hosts to involve different communities in Toronto in our mission to make a difference in the lives of homeless youth.

"Touchstone is a great place to volunteer. The experience gave me a new perspective on youth shelters." said Nari Maharaj, Volunteer. "After seeing all the great programs and services offered, I gained a new appreciation for all the hard work that is done here on a daily basis."

Touchstone Youth Centre hopes to raise awareness of youth homelessness in Toronto and to enhance the life prospects of young people who are attempting to live independently but are temporarily without shelter.

Gear: An Urban Dance Fundraiser would not be possible without the support of our partners: JusTechnique Productions, Lynne MacDonell & Associates, and Simply Swagg Dance Studio. For more information on Touchstone Youth Centre visit our website at www.touchstoneyc.org or e-mail [email protected].

Touchstone Helps

No matter what the reason, most of the young people we work with simply do not possess the skills needed to acquire meaningful employment or find safe, secure and affordable housing.

So here at Touchstone, we work hard to enhance the lives of these young people-victims of circumstances beyond their control.

We're committed to addressing the most pressing issues of at-risk youths: homelessness, hunger, unemployment and alienation from family. And by offering opportunities to develop social and life skills, Touchstone supports youth as they work toward achieving independence and encourages their integration into mainstream society.
