Tucker Sadler Architects' CEO Greg Mueller Revitalizes San Diego Waterfront

SAN DIEGO, December 30, 2020 (Newswire.com) - ​​​​​​​San Diego has undergone major changes at the city’s downtown glistening waterfront, with the vision and leadership of the Unified Port of San Diego. The new architecture and development of the San Diego iconic waterfront have been reimagined by Tucker Sadler Architect’s CEO, Greg Mueller. The growing list of waterfront development projects by designer Greg Mueller includes the iconic Portside Pier, The Shell for The San Diego Symphony Orchestra (formerly the Bayside Performance Venue) and the Costa Vista RV Resort and Park.

Greg Mueller, Tucker Sadler’s Design Principal, has created visions for San Diego’s waterfront that encompass a wide range of elements, each project marrying San Diego’s history and beauty with artful designs that are unique to San Diego. 

The newly completed multi-million dollar open air waterfront design of Portside Pier includes four eateries and stunning views of the San Diego Bay on the North Embarcadero waterfront. Mr. Mueller provided architectural services from entitlement processing through completion of the development. Mueller’s design concept is a nod to the local fisherman past and present, honoring the heritage with a design that symbolizes the casting of a fisherman’s net into the water, and incorporating an abstraction of old-world fish baskets into a modern expression, anchoring each of the entrances to the four different restaurants. 

Recently completed is the U.S. Navy Headquarters Building (part of the original major mixed-use Pacific Gateway development). Tucker Sadler was initially retained as the Design and Executive Architect, and Interior Designer in collaboration with Manchester Financial Group. Mr. Mueller provided the original master planning, entitlement processing, architecture, and interior design services for San Diego’s Navy Broadway Complex.  The $212 million U.S Navy Headquarters Building includes 17 floors of office space and 57,000 square feet of open space.

Opening to the public in 2021 will be the “The Shell” - San Diego Symphony Orchestra’s bayside performance venue and park at the Embarcadero Marina Park South. Tucker Sadler provided project entitlements, planning, programming and continues with full architectural services.  Its unique shell design abstract accommodates a performance stage, state of the art natural acoustics, digital acoustic systems and large video screens flanking the stage. The site includes a permanent outdoor waterfront concert venue that can accommodate up to 10,000 seats, box office, food pavilions, restrooms, ADA access areas, and dining areas. The lawn area of The Shell will be open on non-event days for the community to enjoy, and the enhanced adjacent park will be open year-round.
