UH Physics Professor Arthur B Weglein will present an invited key-note address on " Direct inversion" at the SEG Workshop
Houston, January 22, 2015 (Newswire.com) - The objective of this workshop is to discuss the challenges, difficulties and solutions (either potential or already tested) in full waveform inversion (FWI) for applications in resolving the onshore near surface, shallow water, unconventional resources and offshore subsalt.
On behalf of the technical committee, SEG would like to extend an invitation for Professor Arthur Weglein to be a Keynote speaker for the topic of “Direct Inversion” at this workshop. The time allocated for the keynote
speakers is 20 minutes presentation and 5 minutes Q&A session. This invitation is based on Weglein's interest and experience in the field and his ability to provide critical view in this effort to share knowledge throughout the oil and gas industry.
Arthur B Weglein is a Professor in the Department of Physics and the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Weglein is the Director of the Mission-Oriented Seismic Research Program, a research consortium supported by the major oil and service companies in the world. Professor Weglein served as the SEG Distinguished Lecturer in 2003, and was awarded the SEG’s Reginald Fessenden Award in 2010.
In 2008 he received the Distinguished Townsend Harris Medal from the City College of the City University of New York for his contributions to exploration seismology. He is the co-author ( with Bob Stolt) of a two volume graduate textbook on “Seismic Imaging and Inversion” published in 2012 by Cambridge University Press.
