University of Chicago Medicine and Chicago Sun-Times Partner to Answer Cancer

Together We Answer Cancer

University of Chicago Medicine and Chicago Sun-Times have partnered to raise awareness and support for cancer research and treatment through the "Together We Answer Cancer" campaign.

For eight weeks, UChicago Medicine has wrapped the Friday edition of the Sun-Times with a special “Together We Answer Cancer” section, delivering readers medical information, stories of inspiring patients, updates on the latest advancements in cancer treatment and more. The final “Together We Answer Cancer” section will wrap the Sun-Times this Friday, November 1. In addition, an extensive social media campaign was launched to share the featured stories digitally across Chicagoland.

On Friday, October 18, National Mammography Day, UChicago Medicine dedicated the “Together We Answer Cancer” section to breast cancer, and the Sun-Times honored breast cancer fighters by turning the entire paper pink. A portion of the proceeds of the single copy paper sales that day is being donated to the American Cancer Society’s Illinois chapter.

“Our pink paper was a reminder of the importance of mammograms — whether for you, your wife, your daughter, sister or friend. One out of every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives, and I am one of the one in eight,” said Pamela Henson, the Sun-Times Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing and a cancer survivor. “This campaign introduces us to those that are working to fight that statistic. Because together, we can answer cancer.”

“We produced the largest cancer awareness marketing campaign in UChicago Medicine’s history to underscore the need for early detection of all forms of cancer and to highlight the inspiring stories of patients battling this insidious disease,” said William “Skip” Hidlay, Senior Vice President/Chief Communications and Marketing Officer. “We partnered with the Sun-Times to showcase the important work of the American Cancer Society in raising funds to support research into finding a cure for breast cancer and other forms of cancer.”
