Westside Christian Academy in Detroit Welcomes Two Guests From the US Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to Their Master Class Series
High school students at Westside Christian Academy were glued to their seats listening to speakers Valentina Seeley, Community Relations Regional Director for the Department of Homeland Security, and David Alley, Special Agent for ICE.
DETROIT, February 19, 2018 (Newswire.com) - The two officers spoke to the students as a part of Westside’s Master Class Series, which focuses on a STEM education. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The Master Class Series is held on the last Thursday of every month at the school.
Henry Wells III, Principal and Head of Westside invites high powered executives from a variety of STEM-related fields to speak to the high school students about career opportunities available to them if they concentrate their efforts on an education in STEM.
I think it's important for students to be able to see what opportunities lie ahead for them if they broaden their horizons and pursue careers in the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Those careers are what the government has to offer.

“Guest speakers continue to give our students valuable insight into why they need the STEM skills to compete in the real world,” said Mr. Wells.
Ms. Seeley spoke about the importance of students staying in school and getting an education. She told the students her own personal story about being an immigrant and coming to America at 11 years old. “We did it the legal way, we followed the legal process,” she stressed. “I went on to get a law degree and eventually work for the government in the Department of Homeland Security and ICE.
Ms. Seeley, who is responsible for supporting law enforcement, told to the students how fortunate they are to live in a free society like America and that law enforcement officers are out there every day putting their lives on the line to protect our country and that freedom.
Special Agent for Homeland Security, David Alley also encouraged the students to stay in school and study the STEM subjects to take advantage of the many job possibilities in law enforcement.
