Press Release - September 10, 2015 4:28PM EST
More and more in today's society, people are frightened about taking their families to places that they never previously thought of. Mass shootings, guns everywhere and conceal carry laws are everyday headlines. They are now at baseball parks, all types of special and sporting events. The public really just needs to get used to them.
Minooka, IL, September 10, 2015 (Newswire.com) -
Many people see a walk through metal detectors and assume this place must be trouble or have trouble.
When quite the contrary is true, the presence of a Walk Through Metal Detector shows patrons that the business and business owner are concerned with Public and Patron Safety.
It demonstrates that the business is proactive to prevent and deter undesirable situations.
Such as someone bringing in weapons into a grocery, retail store or movie theatre.
Of course, many states have concealed carry laws, which legally afford law abiding citizens the right to carry firearms.
Some firearm rights activists will state “wouldn’t it be better or safer if everyone had a firearm, then no one would dare do anything”. Does anyone remember the old west?
Problem is, any situation could turn into a hail of gunfire and a situation could escalate into a shootout.
Of course businesses have the right to post signage and enforce a no firearms policy.
This then draws the ire of gun owners and gun activists. So many traditional businesses are afraid to move forward and take the proper safety precautions.
Let’s face it, times have changed. New generations of sensible people understand the need to take precautions.
The bottom line is how do we best provide for the security of the traveling public in light of a determined enemy who is adept at constructing well-designed, well-concealed devices which would not show up in a walk-through metal detector? We're trying to employ the best technology to identify any possible threat.John Pistole
We have already moved over the last 20 years to having video camera’s everywhere.
But in many cases these only video and document a terrible and unfortunate event. They do nothing to prevent the event.
But people are used to seeing the cameras. At some point people will become more accustomed to seeing walk through metal detectors in everyday situations.
They will become common place in schools, retails locations, amusement parks, events, venues, theaters etc.
We are accustomed to seeing them when at the airports and courthouses, and of course everyone knows and understands
that weapons are clearly not accepted at these places.
But they will still make the argument that allowing everyone to enter retail and public events where hundreds or thousands of people are present.
And of course, some businesses will resist due to the added staff that may be required to monitor the devices.
But what cost is life. Ask the families of the Aurora Theater shooting, of the Louisiana Theater shooting. Ask their families what it cost them.
Isn’t it about time that we made so many of our public spaces and events safer and gun free, just like an airport or courthouse.
