Winter Capital Targets Boosted Venture Capital Investments in SEA and Particularly Singapore in 2023

Winter Capital is a growth equity investment firm headquartered in the UAE with offices in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Cyprus, actively investing globally since 2015. It is an effective player in the SEA region, with the aim of driving support for emerging startups in this sector, including Singapore. The most recent addition to Winter Capital's portfolio is edtech platform Uolo, offering online learning programs to middle and low-income families in India (1), and Sangaporean super-app Osome.

Earlier in 2022, Winter Capital led funding rounds of rising Indian startups College Dekho and Money View, who raised $35 million and $75 million respectively. Curefoods, a prominent cloud kitchen startup, raised $43 million.

Singapore boasts continuous GDP growth, which reached 4.4% in the third quarter of 2022 (2), driving Chinese investments and foreign growth capitals alike (3). China has been the most important partner for Singapore on many fronts. However, China's internal conflicts and external collisions will give the advantage to foreign investors in 2023. As Deal Street Asia reports, Singapore accounted for approximately 60% of total deal value across SEA, reaching US $8.1 billion within Q1-Q3, 2022 (4).

Singapore is keeping up the trend of being a great hub for venture capital. In particular, startups enabling blockchain technology as well as other digital advancements have received strong support in the country recently. Singapore-based Insignia Ventures Partners raised $516 million, a large part of which is earmarked for investment in Web3 business ventures (5).

Singapore has been advancing the global tech revolution, with a start-up economy that is ranked 18th in the world (6). Winter Сapital stably supports and professionally assists ASEAN startups on their path to emergence as new unicorns in FinTech, EdTech, and consumer services verticals.
